Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and peppermint extract until well combined.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Gradually mix into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  5. Divide the dough in half; leave one half plain and color the other half with red food coloring.
  6. Roll small pieces of each dough into ropes, twist them together, and form into candy cane shapes.
  7. Place on a lined baking sheet and bake for about 10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
  8. Allow to cool before dusting with powdered sugar.
