Panettone is a delightful Italian sweet bread that embodies the essence of celebration.   • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup whole milk (warm)
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup candied fruit mix
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk and yeast; let sit for 5 minutes until frothy. Add sugar, melted butter, eggs, and half of the flour; mix until smooth.
  2. Gradually add remaining flour while kneading on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until elastic.
  3. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about 2 hours or until doubled.
  4. Punch down the dough, fold in candied fruit mix and chocolate chips.
  5. Shape into a ball and place in a prepared Panettone mold; cover and let rise for another hour.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown. Cool before slicing.
