Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 34 tbsp milk
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 3 minutes).
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time followed by vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually mix in dry ingredients until just combined to avoid over-mixing.
  6. Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto prepared sheets and flatten slightly. Bake for 10 minutes or until edges are golden but centers remain soft.
  7. Allow cookies to cool on wire racks before icing.
  8. For the icing, mix powdered sugar with milk until smooth; add food coloring if desired and decorate cooled cookies once they reach room temperature.
