  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • Food coloring (black & orange)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and sugar.
  3. In another bowl, beat eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla until blended. Gradually mix into dry ingredients.
  4. Divide batter between pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans for ten minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  5. For frosting, blend powdered sugar with cream cheese until fluffy; add food coloring as desired.
  6. Stack layers with frosting in between and frost the top and sides of the cake.
