Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with festive liners.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and red food coloring until fully incorporated.
  4. Gradually combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients; stir gently until just mixed.
  5. Fill each cupcake liner about two-thirds full with batter.
  6. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean; cool in the pan for five minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  7. Once completely cooled, pipe cream cheese frosting on top and decorate as desired.
