  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 3 cups powdered sugar (sifted)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream
  • Red food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time followed by vanilla.
  4. Alternate adding the dry ingredients and milk until just combined.
  5. Fill cupcake liners two-thirds full and bake for 18-20 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
  6. For frosting, beat butter until creamy; gradually add powdered sugar alternating with heavy cream until smooth.
  7. Divide frosting; tint part red for Santa hats and leave part white for decoration. Pipe onto cupcakes accordingly.
