  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk (or dairy-free alternative)
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy cream (for topping)
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two round cake pans and dust with flour.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat sugar and eggs until fluffy. Gradually add milk, oil, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients without overmixing.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for about 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. While cooling, whip heavy cream with powdered sugar until stiff peaks form for the spider web topping.
  7. Once cooled, pipe concentric circles on each layer of the cake and drag a skewer from the center outward to create the spider web.
