  • 2 large Blood Oranges
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 3 large eggs, room temperature

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8-inch round cake pan.
  2. Slice the blood oranges into thin rounds and arrange them in the bottom of the pan.
  3. In a small bowl, mix half a cup of sugar with two tablespoons of melted butter; pour over the oranges.
  4. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and remaining sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, followed by vanilla extract.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together flour and baking powder; gradually add to wet ingredients until just combined.
