  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder

  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, at room temperature

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture alternately with milk until just combined.
  5. Divide batter between pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely before frosting.
  6. For the frosting, whip heavy cream until peaks form. Gradually add powdered sugar and cream cheese, mixing until smooth.
  7. Frost cooled cake layers and serve.
